Dalton's Mountain Lake Adventure

There's something undeniably "dog" about a pristine mountain lake! When you combine fresh air, water and an abundant supply of sticks you have all the makings of a perfect dog day afternoon.

Deborah, Dalton and I had an absolutely amazing time exploring all their favorite mountain-top lake-side trails. What started as a gentle hike through the dense woods opened up into a beautiful adventure and a day of doing all 12 year old Dalton's favorite things.

We paused here and there to enjoy the view and appreciate the wonder of nature. Watching the fresh snow-melt bounce endlessly off the rocks cascading into the valley below us. A moment here and there to just listen to the wind in the trees and breath some fresh mountain air. And maybe, just maybe spot some wildlife.

While I know handsome Dalton enjoyed sniffing all the great smells along the trail and meeting the other hikers, his absolute favorite part was playing ball with his person! In an endless loop of Deborah throwing the ball waaaay out into the lake, and Dalton swimming to retrieve it. As I sat crouched at the shore with my long zoom lens dialed in, I kept thinking, "ok, one more round and he'll tucker out". Dalton is technically a senior citizen after all. But he never did! Swim after swim he went out and back in a dazzling spray of water.

Of course nothing is better than the expression of absolute joy dog's get when they're loved so much by their people!

What better way to end an adventure, than by sitting quietly with your best friend oh a park bench and watching the sun set over the serene waters. Really what better way is there to end any day?
