7 Dog-Friendly Summer Activities in North Idaho

Make the Most of the Season With Your Four-Legged Best Friend

Summer in North Idaho is a full-on sensory experience — warm breezes, lake days, and long golden evenings. And while we humans are soaking it all in, let’s not forget the real MVPs of summer fun: our four-legged besties. 🐶

If you’re looking for ideas to keep your dog happy, healthy, and living their best summer life, here’s a joyful bucket list full of North Idaho dog-friendly summer activities and local pet events you won’t want to miss.

1. Paddleboard Together on Lake Coeur d’Alene

Nothing says “cool dog” like a pup balancing on a paddleboard with their ears in the breeze. Start with calm waters near shore and don’t forget a doggy life jacket for safety. Bring treats, pack your (waterproof) camera, and get ready for some seriously frame-worthy moments.

2. Splash Around at Riverstone Park’s Dog Swim Zone

This dog-friendly swim spot in Coeur d’Alene is a hidden gem. Located in Riverstone Park, it features a fenced-off river-front area perfect for letting your pup safely splash and cool off. Pro tip: bring a towel, floating toys, and snacks for both of you.

3. Pup Cup + Coffee Date at Jitterz Coffee

One of the best dog-friendly spots in North Idaho? Jitterz Coffee, where they serve up pup cups for your co-pilot and white coffee magic for you (try it iced — it’s a local favorite!). Grab a shady bench and enjoy a slow summer morning with your furry sidekick.

4. Plan a Camping Getaway

North Idaho is camping heaven — and dogs love every sniff of it. Whether you're setting up by the lake or tucked into the trees, give your pup the thrill of the wild: campfire cuddles, trail-side naps, and a thousand new smells to discover. Just don't forget the flee & tick prevention.

5. Book a Summer Photo Session (Okay, Tiny Shameless Plug)

Summer is packed with those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments — golden evenings, sandy paws, the way your dog lights up just being outside with you. These are the memories that deserve more than a quick phone snap.

If you're ready to truly capture that magic, I’ve got summer sessions open — from laid-back lake days to lovely Lavender Dreams in the fields. Whether it’s your first session or your fifth, let’s create something beautiful together.

6. Dog Days of Summer-Fest

June 21, 11 AM–2 PM | Stoddard Park (next to Chomper Café)
Bounce houses, food trucks, dog vendors, and tons of tail-wagging energy — this festival is for the whole family, fur included! Co-hosted by ICCU and Companions Animal Center, it’s a perfect Saturday outing packed with dog-friendly charm.

7. Doggie Splash Bash – A Water Park for Dogs

June 28, 2–4 PM | Sit Means Sit – Post Falls
This tail-wagging charity event supports the Post Falls K-9 Unit and offers splash zones, pet vendors, and a silent auction. It’s part dog park, part splash pad, and all joy. Come ready to get wet and make a difference!

Bonus: Quick Summer Safety Tips for Dogs

Before you head out on your next adventure, keep these simple tips in mind to keep your pup safe in the summer heat:

  • If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws. Even on a 75°F day, sidewalks can heat up to 125°F.

  • Never leave your dog in the car. Even with the windows down, temperatures can soar dangerously high in minutes.

  • Always bring water. Collapsible bowls are a summer essential. Hydration is key, but avoid letting your dog gulp down excessive water too quickly, especially during water play, to prevent water toxicity.

  • Use life jackets on the water. Even strong swimmers can become disoriented and try to swim to shore instead of returning to the boat.

Make It a Summer to Remember

Whether you’re paddleboarding at sunrise, splashing in the park, or smiling in a lavender field, this season is full of memories waiting to be made.

I’d love to be part of capturing those moments for you. If you're ready to book your summer photo session, click here to get started — and let’s make it unforgettable.

— and let’s make it unforgettable.
