The Olmstead Family: Love, Joy, and an Irish Wolfhound Named Murphy

Last year, I had the pleasure of meeting the Olmstead family through a fundraiser for our 2025 pet calendar. They generously donated to have their stunning Irish Wolfhound, Murphy, photographed for the project. During the planning, Rena, Murphy’s mom, mentioned it had been years since their last family photos. I was thrilled to share that we could combine Murphy’s session with a family shoot, and Farragut State Park was the perfect location.

Farragut holds a special place in the Olmsteads' hearts, as they’ve spent many wonderful afternoons there. The serene forest and beautiful Buttonhook Bay provided an ideal backdrop to showcase Murphy’s majestic presence. Rena had told me Murphy—a big, lovable momma’s boy—was shy and wary of strangers. I promised to give him the space he needed.

But to everyone’s delight, Murphy warmed up quickly. As we walked between photo spots, he sidled up next to me, and Rena and I exchanged a knowing look. There’s no better feeling than earning the trust of a shy dog! Once Murphy let me into his bubble, the magic began. His fur flowed beautifully in the breeze as he ran, and his bond with the family and their smaller dog, Charlie, shone through in every moment.

Charlie, the more social and playful of the two, added an extra spark of energy to the session. Watching the two dogs interact was a joy, from their playful antics to quiet moments of companionship.

Murphy’s regal stature paired perfectly with Charlie’s lively spirit, creating a heartwarming dynamic.

The family moments were equally special. The Olmstead's were relaxed and full of laughter, enjoying the time together. Whether walking along the trails or sitting by the water, their love for one another and their dogs was evident in every shot. Farragut’s stunning scenery truly captured the warmth and connection of this amazing family.

By the end of the session, I felt so honored to have captured these memories for the Olmsteads. Their session at Farragut was filled with love, laughter, and a lot of fun -- a true testament to the bond this family shares.

Thank you, Olmstead family, for trusting me with your story and letting me be part of such a meaningful day.
