Atlas Hits The Road

Early in the Spring, while our local greenery was still enjoying it's Winter snooze, I got a call from Bryan. He & Megan were going to be coming home to the Front Range and wanted to commemorate their week-long visit with family photos featuring the light of their lives, Atlas!

As we chatted more about their plans, I started thinking about location. As Bryan is a graduate from the School of Mines, Lion's Park in Golden seemed like an obvious location choice. But as we chatted I gazed out the window at our still very bare & dormant trees. And I knew the park would not even remotely resemble the Springtime glory that Bryan remembered. So we tossed around a few other ideas before landing on the scenic splendor of Lookout Mountain. A spot so gorgeous that Buffalo Bill Cody opted to make it his final resting place, much to the dismay of the Wyoming city named after him. And if you want the rest of that story cruise up to the Buffalo Bill Museum on top of Lookout Mountain. THIS story is about Atlas “Spark-Nugget” Weaver and his parents who may also be one of the most adorable couples I've photographed.

The early morning mountain top treated us to warm sunshine & cool air as we wandered through the trails pausing to play fetch with Atlas along the way. He & Megan showed off some awesome agility skills!

When they told me Atlas was a husky/poodle, I truly had no idea what to expect. Both breeds tend to be highly intelligent. Though huskies often lean more on the mischievous "I do what I want" side of life. And there were some concerns that all the traveling might leave Atlas feeling less than stellar. But he was quick to show me his best side.

With exceptional manners, Atlas cruised down the trail and explored what fun scents and sounds the forest had to offer, without ever wandering far from his people. He even showed off a few of his favorite behaviors. From snuggling with mom, to matching outfits with dad.

We took in the gorgeous scenery as the sun climbed higher. With the air warming up the draw of Clear Creek beckoned us to do a little splashing.

I'm not sure who won the water fight, but everyone had a great time!
