Kai's Legacy

I met Gretchen, Bjorn, and their son Ian on a warm Spring afternoon at one of my favorite Lookout Mountain locations. Happily waging along side them were Kai & Lorna. While I'd be remiss not to include some lovely family portraits, the focus of our session was all about best buddies Kai & Ian.

Gretchen reached out to me after receiving some heartbreaking news, Kai would be crossing the Rainbow Bridge soon and more than anything she wanted Ian to have some beautiful images to help him grieve and remember their treasured time together. For most of Kai's life the two were inseparable. Romping in the backyard or relaxing on the couch. Sharing secrets like only a boy & his best furry friend can.

And so when Kai's diagnosis came back, Gretchen knew it would hit Ian the hardest. Armed with tissues and treats I set out to guide this beautiful family on one more mountain top adventure with Kai & Lorna. We meandered through the woods, while Kai & Lorna took in the sights and smells of the forest.

We sought out a quiet location to encourage energetic Kai to enjoy the serenity of the woods. And with her buddy Lorna by her side and her family close behind she seemed to enjoy the fresh air.

And of course we took time out for some quiet snuggles. It's as if Lorna was trying to convince Gretchen all would be ok. Or perhaps it was the other way around.

By the time I met with Gretchen and her family again, Kai had already crossed the Rainbow Bridge. But I know that her memory will live on furever in their hearts.
