Spring Photo Session at Black Bay Park: Wildflowers, Fun and Family

There’s something special about spring at Black Bay Park. It’s one of my favorite spots for photo sessions — not just because of the wide-open spaces and blooming wildflowers, but because it always brings a little extra magic to family photos.

This past weekend’s session was one of those magic-filled afternoons. I met up with the sweetest family: Mom, Dad, their bright-eyed little girl (we’ll call her Ms. M), and their long-haired dachshund, Elsa.

When Mom and I first chatted about their session, she told me how much she loved the idea of Elsa among the wildflowers. It was such a sweet vision — and Black Bay Park delivered! The fields were dotted with color, the light was soft and golden, and everything just felt relaxed and happy.

Elsa, like most puppies, has two modes: full-speed sprint or fast asleep. There’s really no in-between. So Mom’s biggest hope was that we could capture her in that perfect in-between moment — alert, present, and (fingers crossed) not a blur.

And honestly? Elsa did great! With some squeaky toy magic and a few treats, we got those moments — including one of Ms. M gently sharing a wildflower with Elsa that might be one of my favorites ever.

One of the funniest parts of the day? Elsa's reaction to my camera. She was not a fan of the “big clicky box” following her around. And she had no problem expressing exactly how she felt about it. But that’s what makes sessions like these so memorable — the personality, the unpredictability, the realness.
